We had hoped that the first time you saw my book cover would be in your hands.
But I canβt hold it any longer. And I owe you a glimpse (β¦our little secret π€«π€«)
π¬July 2020 was a whirlwind. Hereβs why.
I handed in the final edits of my book for copyediting.
I flew home for my motherβs sixtieth birthday
I became an uncle
I received the edited manuscriptβ¦.
Number 4 is where things fell apart.
When my editor scheduled a special team meeting, I knew something was up.
I received the news while sitting in my childhood home, over a Zoom call. This in itself was a bit strange, having written it over the years in Austin, San Francisco, and while traveling.
The news was, of course, not good β I wouldnβt be publishing on time.
But after a few minutes on that call, it struck me as strange that I wasnβt upset. I was relieved.
Why?
Not the CNN, MSNBC kind β the kind that forces me to solve difficult problems.
Would you rather have a team that tells you things are good when they arenβt? Or a team that helps you solve difficult problems?
Iβm extraordinarily grateful for New Degree Press going to bat with me and telling me when I am wrong, and helping me find whatβs right. It has been a more humbling experience than I ever could have imagined.
And now we are back on trackβ¦
So whatβs next?
Stephanie and I make the FINAL (final) edits.
I release an article series about the book on Medium and Linkedin
