Some people think linearly.
Some people think non-linearly.
Let’s go back to the first thing you drew in art class. Back then, I hated art. Crayons were the devil. And the art teacher was a witch.
Here’s what mine looked like.
Sometimes, life feels like one giant ball of scribbles.
But if you’ve ever been to the MET, the Guggenheim, or a modern art museum, you know that it can pay to be “abstract.”
🎨 As a writer, painter, or singer, “divergent thought”, is helpful.
But when signing, organizing, and mailing out 150 books…
The amount of mental stamina it takes to check and recheck 150 mailing addresses, print out labels, package up books, and wait at the overcrowded post-office rivals the marathon.
While waiting in line, mask snuffing my glasses and fingers cramping beneath a box of 30 books, I couldn’t help but contrast my experience to Amazon 🤔
If you go to Amazon right now and order my book, they will print it on demand and ship it to you within two days. Now multiply that by millions of transactions every day. (…it took me almost two weeks to “process” your books.)
That’s why Amazon encapsulates the highest virtue of the 21st 🌐 century :
Efficiency is capitalism 💰
Efficiency is anti-bureaucratic🏛
Efficiency makes the world go round🌍
—Or maybe I should say, efficiency makes the world more linear.
So are you a linear thinker, or non-linear?
Does it vary in certain aspects of your life? Will you strive to lean more in the other direction in 2021?
As you may have guessed, I am a
It helps in writing and creativity, but hurts for most everything in the “real world” 🤷♂️.
And so, the publishing process has made it clear where my skill set lies—
Now I can make sure that 2021 will mean extra work to bend the linear and non-linear into my life.
Because, truth is, we all need both 🙌
The engineer needs to come up with creative solutions to solve an elusive problem
The salesperson needs to frame their product in a unique and alternative way
The coder needs to hack through semi-invisible challenges
And the writer needs to organize his/her thoughts (…and books)
In this hyper digial world, it’s both easier and harder than ever to stay organized.
I haven’t done the best job of it, and have paid the price.
But now, five months delayed, the books are
Thank you for all of your patience along the way!
Next time I’ll cut the delay in half 😉
The holidays are meant to be a time where we come together 🙏 with friends + family.
To those of us who are lucky enough to get together with loved ones, I will quote my pops:
For everyone else,
—have just what you need…
Cannot wait for you all to receive your books.
Lace-up those reading glasses, find a couch, and have a ripe-old-time.
Oh, and by the way—book two is underway 🚀
Will share more details soon.
Cheers friends, appreciate all your help throughout these months.
Be well and take care,
—Jeremy
